Ben Sulayem survives high-speed crash

The former rally driver Mohammed ben Sulayem survived a high-speed crash in a Formula One car in Dubai this afternoon. The 14-time Middle East Rally champion was driving one of last year's Renault F1 car in a showpiece event for the car manufacturer at the Dubai Autodrome, when he crashed. The car, which was driven at high speed at an event in the Dubai desert earlier today, was badly damaged. The vehicle is estimated to be worth around €2 million (Dh9.8m). Mr ben Sulayem, the vice-president of the FIA, the world motorsport governing body, walked away from the crash seemingly unscathed. A Renault sports car event at Dubai Mall tomorrow, with Renault F1 driver Nelson Piquet Jr, will take place as planned, with a replacement F1 car.
