Godolphin give Blue Bunting good company for St Leger

Godolphin's star filly Blue Bunting is set to be joined by Genius Beast and Rumh for next Saturday's St Leger at Doncaster, the final Classic of the British racing season.

Blue Bunting will be bidding for her third Classic of the campaign and her fourth Group One win in all on Town Moor following success in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket, the Irish Oaks and most recently the Yorkshire Oaks.

The three-year-old confirmed herself on target for Doncaster with a pleasing workout yesterday morning and connections are in confident mood.

"Blue Bunting pleased in her workout this morning and Sheikh Mohammed [bin Rashid, Vice-President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai] gave her the green light to run in the Ladbrokes St Leger," said Simon Crisford, the Godolphin racing manager.

The Saeed bin Suroor-trained Rumh will be supplemented for the race tomorrow and the Godolphin operation once again plan to use her as a pacemaker, as they did in Blue Bunting's triumph at the Yorkshire Oaks.

"Blue Bunting looks to be in the same form as she was before the Darley Yorkshire Oaks," Mahmood Al Zarooni, the Godolphin trainer said. "I have been pleased with her preparation for the St Leger and it is now a question of waiting until next Saturday.

Al Zarooni said that they are taking a chance with Genius Beast, but believe he can run a good race on September 10.

"He stays very well and all the jockeys who have ridden him have suggested this race," Al Zarooni said. "He will be staying on at the end and I am hopeful that he can make the frame."

Godolphin have had five winners at the St Leger; Classic Cliche (1995), Nedawi (1998), Mutafaweq (1999), Rule Of Law (2004) and Mastery (2009).
