Buzzword ran well to finish fourth in the French Classic, the Group One Poule d'Essai des Poulians, over a mile at Longchamp yesterday. Trained by Mahmood al Zarooni and ridden by Ahmed Ajtebi, the three-year-old colt was well away from the stalls before being held up in mid-division in the French equivalent of the 2,000 Guineas.
He swept into the straight towards the outside of the 15-strong field before running on well in the final two furlongs to gain fourth in the closing stages. Buzzword was beaten four-and-a-half lengths by the winner, Lope De Vega, who finished the race in 1min 36.1secs. "Buzzword has run very well," al Zarooni said. "I think he will stay further than a mile. "We do not have any targets for him at the moment but will sit down and look at the options."
Poet's Voice, making his seasonal return, broke well from the stalls and raced keenly early on for Frankie Dettori. Settled in fifth, the three-year-old son of Dubawi dropped back a few places after entering the straight. Trained by Saeed bin Suroor, Poet's Voice was asked to knuckle down with two furlongs left and kept on at pace to finish eighth. The third Godolphin runner, Forum Magnum, who is trained by Andre Fabre, acted as pacemaker under Mickael Barzalona. He led until one-and-a-half furlongs out and then weakened to finish 12th.
Campanologist finished fourth in the Group One Premio Presidente della Repubblica over 10 furlongs at Capannelle in Rome yesterday. The five-year-old son of Kingmambo, partnered by Ted Durcan, was settled in fourth on the outside and maintained that position until turning into the straight. He moved up to second briefly before two rivals passed him. Campanologist, also trained by bin Suroor, kept on to finish fourth behind Querari, going down by five-and-a-quarter lengths on very soft ground.
William Balding, of Godolphin, said Campanologist ran well. "Ted stayed wide on him to get the best ground," he said. "Campanologist floundered on the ground when asked in the straight and could not quicken." * Agencies
