Dufner focuses on giving best shot

Jason Dufner, who took the midway lead with the round of the day at the Canadian Open at Oakville, merely produced his best golf on Saturday. Low and behold: he all but created a course record. Paying little regard to the fact that it rained, the relatively unheralded Dufner stormed to the top of the leaderboard with a nine-under 63 in the second round, one stroke off the course-record 62 set by Greg Norman in 1986.

Dufner, 32, chasing his first PGA Tour win, attributed his day's success to focusing on giving his best shot. "It started raining at the end making conditions tougher but 63 is a good score," he said. "I saw this morning on the board walking from the car that the course record was 62. But you just try to shoot the best score that you can and the records just kind of come." Meanwhile, Norman himself reeled in overnight leader Fred Funk with a fine six-under-par 64 to open up a one-shot lead in the Senior British Open third round on Saturday. The Australian started the day seven shots off pacesetter Funk but took a narrow lead with a 10-under tally of 200.
