Bruno Senna back on track for the Belgian GP

Bruno Senna tells Gary Meenaghan about his elevation to a race seat with Renault for Sunday's race in Belgium at the expense of Nick Heidfeld.

How are you feeling ahead of this weekend’s race in Belgium?

I am both excited and nervous – it feels like Christmas and my toughest exam have both arrived on the same day. I am really thrilled and motivated to be getting in the car to race in F1 again. Getting back to racing is something I’ve been craving for a while, and it’s not often you get an opportunity like this, with a team of this stature. I feel I am fully prepared to rise to the challenge. I will not disappoint.”

What can we expect from you this weekend?

It’s hard to say. I know I will have to learn how to deal with the tyres from the first set all the way to the sets in qualifying, and then again how to deal with the tyres for the race as that will be my first experience with the Pirelli tyres on high fuel going to low fuel. All this experience, I don’t have, so if I can be anywhere near [teammate Vitaly] Petrov, that would be a good reference.

Will you keep the seat until the end of the season?

Right now, I am confirmed for this race and the next race [Italy], but for some legal issues still to be resolved, they can’t confirm the rest of the year. The intentions are that I do it, but it still cannot be confirmed.

How do you feel about making your return at Spa?

The fact that it is here, in Spa, is very special. It is my favourite circuit and a circuit that, historically, I have done very well on, so I am really looking forward to it. I hope I can progress fast and hopefully do a good job for these guys.
