MADRID // Villarreal moved back up to second in the table on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over Almeria at El Madrigal. A first-minute goal from Giuseppe Rossi and a second after 15 minutes from Joseba Llorente put the Yellow Submarine in control and, although Pablo Piatti halved the deficit just after the hour mark, Villarreal held on to move to within a point of the leaders Barcelona.
Valencia also maintained their title challenge with an impressive 3-0 win at Getafe. Sevilla are up to fifth, Fredi Kanoute's 63rd-minute header enough to see off their local rivals Recreativo Huelva, while Deportivo La Coruna moved up to sixth after edging out Espanyol 1-0. Javier Portillo spurned a chance to earn the rock-bottom Osasuna their first Liga win after missing a penalty in a 0-0 draw against Atletico Madrid.
