Landon Donovan got the United States back in the game with their first goal three minutes after half time.

US fight back to draw with Slovenia

JOHANNESBURG // The United States made a dramatic comeback from two goals down at half time to draw 2-2 with Slovenia and rescue their World Cup chances today. Slovenia took a two-goal lead into the break, outplaying the Americans with strikes from Valter Birsa in the 13th minute and Zlatan Ljubijankic in the 42nd. But Landon Donovan scored a brilliant individual goal three minutes after the break and, as the Americans poured forwards, Michael Bradley, son of coach Bob Bradley, grabbed an equaliser eight minutes from time. The United States got the ball in the net five minutes from the end through Maurice Edu but it was controversially disallowed by the referee who spotted an apparent infringement by the American. "I still don't know why the goal was disallowed," an angry Bradley, who remonstrated with the Malian official at the end of the match, said. "Nobody knows at this moment." Slovenia lead Group C with four points from the United States on two. England, with one point so far, play Algeria, with none, later in Cape Town. * Reuters
