Sevilla turn to Alvarez

Antonio Alvarez, the Sevilla assistant coach, will take charge of the first team until the end of the season, it was announced yesterday. Alvarez, 54, replaces Manolo Jimenez who was sacked following Tuesday's 1-1 draw against the Primera Liga's bottom club Xerez. It is Alvarez's first job as a first-team manager, having served as Jimenez's assistant for the previous two years. Sevilla, who visit Villarreal tomorrow, are fifth in the table, two points behind Real Mallorca.
