Jorge Valdano, the Real Madrid director general, has confirmed they are in the market for a striker after finding out this week they would be losing Gonzalo Higuain for a lengthy spell.
Higuain had an operation on his back in Chicago on Tuesday and the doctor who performed the surgery confirmed afterwards that the Argentina international would be absent for three to four months.
That would mean Higuain is unlikely to be available until the final weeks of the season, which would leave Jose Mourinho, the Real coach, with Karim Benzema as his only senior centre-forward.
Said Valdano: "We are exploring the market now that the uncertainty around Higuain has been resolved. We'll see if we can find a player who can help us for six months."
