Pompey's losing streak continues

Sylvain Distin, the former Portsmouth captain, thinks Paul Hart's side will soon get the reward their determination deserves, despite helping inflict a seventh straight Premier League defeat on them. Superior for long spells, Ports-mouth created a host of chances, with Aaron Mokoena hitting the crossbar and Tal Ben-Haim failing from point-blank range. But Louis Saha scored the only goal in the 42nd minute, beating Younes Kaboul in the air to head down a high ball from Johnny Heitinga before directing a strong finish past David James as Pompey extended the worst start in Premier League history. Distin, who left Pompey for Everton in the summer, said: "They are definitely going to get something if they keep fighting. That's the secret. If you work hard you eventually get something and they will." Everton manager David Moyes added: "When you've lost five and six in a row, you're going to show some pride and they did that." Man of the match: Louis Saha (Everton)
