Oman face suspension from World Cup qualifying over court row

ZURICH // Oman could be suspended from qualifying for the 2014 World Cup by FIFA after breaching rules on clubs taking football disputes to the courts.

Three clubs in the country sought a ruling to invalidate allegedly flawed elections for the Oman Football Association ruling board.

Oman has reached the final Asian group stage under manager Paul Le Guen, facing Japan, Iraq, Australia and Jordan.

The country, which is due to play its next World Cup qualifier in October against Jordan, has been warned it faces 'immediate and indefinite suspension' if a court ruling is enforced.

The game's world governing body says its observers were satisfied that elections last August were conducted correctly.

Eight clubs had previously failed in an bid to postpone the vote.
