Liverpool have made an offer to Inter Milan to sign Luc Castaignos, their Dutch forward, as they seek cover for the suspended Luis Suarez. With the Uruguay forward serving an eight-match ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra, Liverpool are striving to increase their attacking options by moving for the 19-year-old forward on loan with a view to permanent move.
Inter are receptive to the idea of loaning out the youth international, who has made four appearances for them since signing from Feyenoord in 2011, but are reluctant to negotiate an option to buy in any deal.
Manchester City will learn today if their appeal against Vincent Kompany's dismissal in the FA Cup tie with Manchester United has been successful. The Football Association yesterday confirmed they had received City's appeal against their captain's sending off. Kompany was shown a straight red card for a challenge on United's Nani after 12 minutes of a game City lost 3-2.
A hearing will take place today and City will be notified of the outcome. Kompany, 24, is due to serve a four-match ban for the offence starting with the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final against Liverpool tomorrow.

Alejandro Faurlin, the Queens Park Rangers midfielder, has been ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie at MK Dons. The Argentine was carried off on a stretcher towards the end of Rangers' 1-1 draw.
"I just wanna let u know guys, its bad news for me I have rupture of the ACL, I'm out for the rest of the season! Really disappointed sad!" he posted on Twitter. "Things never been easy for me! But for sure I will be back stronger!! I accept this test as professional and person as well!!" Robbie Keane trained with Aston Villa yesterday ahead of his expected loan move from Los Angeles Galaxy. The 31-year-old Republic of Ireland striker was shown training with his future teammates in a video on Villa's website as he waits to complete his return to the Premier League on a short-term arrangement.
Keane is expected to join on a two-month loan deal during the MLS off-season. If the paperwork is completed in time Keane could make his debut against Everton on Saturday, where he will come up against his Galaxy teammate Landon Donovan, who is on loan at Goodison Park.
Michael Dawson insists he has no problem slotting straight back in to the Tottenham team on a regular basis after it emerged that Ledley King is facing yet another spell on the sidelines with a suspected hamstring tear. Dawson returned from a four-month Achilles injury lay-off on Saturday to captain Tottenham to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Cheltenham Town in the FA Cup third round.
Dawson now faces the prospect of playing his second game in five days after King injured his hamstring in training. "Injuries are hard and when you come back you need to come back and perform at the best of your ability and do what you can and I will always back myself to do that," Dawson said. "I didn't feel any reaction to the injury [on Saturday]. I feel good."
