Knee surgery for Sharjah's Rashid in Germany; Al Ahli frustrated over penalties

SHARJAH

Knee surgery for Rashid in Germany

Ahmed Rashid, Sharjah's No 1 goalkeeper, has left for Germany where he will undergo surgery on a cruciate ligament injury Tuesday. "Ahmed got injured during training before the start of the Etisalat Cup and will be out of action for nearly six months," a club spokesman said. Rashid's injury is bad news for coach Valeriu Tita, who was unhappy with Gassem Mohammed's performance in the 3-2 defeat at Ajman on Saturday.

AL AHLI

Team plan to get tough on discipline

After getting four red cards in three Etisalat Cup games, the team will impose penalties on erring players, perhaps deducting as much as 20 per cent of their salary for a yellow card and 40 per cent for an expulsion. In the last match against Al Shabab, Ahli finished with nine men after Ali Hussain and Khalid Mohammed received red cards in the closing minutes.

AL SHABAB

Bonamigo remains positive on Ciel

Paulo Bonamigo is confident that in the months ahead Ciel will improve on the sluggish performance he delivered in a 3-1 defeat at home to Al Ahli. "Ciel plays at a very high pace and right now the weather conditions are different, a bit tough," the coach said. "But we are still in the beginning of the season and everybody will improve."

BANIYAS

Kuwait FA propose game for Awana

The veterans of Kuwait and UAE national teams will play a match later this month to honour the memory of Theyab Awana, the Baniyas midfielder who died in a car crash on September 25. The Kuwait FA proposed the match to the UAE FA. Members of the current Kuwait national team have launched a donation drive to build a mosque in Awana's memory.
