Fresh legs for UAE legends

DUBAI // The Sevens wore a carnival look yesterday as more than 300 amateur teams converged on the grounds for the Emirates Airline Dubai Football Sevens, setting the stage for the likes of Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi and Ian Rush to make their appearance today. Maldini and Baresi will be part of a star-studded AC Milan squad in the eight-team legends tournament, which kicks off today when the Italians take on Celtic. Liverpool then face the pride of UAE football, the team of 1990 who qualified for the World Cup in Italy. The home team are not taking the tournament lightly and Abdulrahman Mohammed Abdullah, UAE's captain at the 1990 World Cup, has drafted younger legs to help their cause.

"We have tried to put a mixed team," said Abdullah. "Some players are from the World Cup team, others like Bakhit Saad, Nasir Khamees and Badr Hareb were not part of that team. We need young players also. "It will be special for us to be together again." @Email:arizvi@thenational.ae
