Feyenoord recruit Van Beukering

Feyenoord have signed Jhon van Beukering on a free transfer as they bid to move away from the foot of the table.

The 27-year-old midfielder was available after his deal at NEC Nijmegen expired at the end of last season. He has since been without a club.

Van Beukering has signed a contract until next summer with the side who are fourth from bottom - with an option for a further 12 months.

Van Beukering told the club's website: "Football can be strange.

"A month ago I never imagined ending up at Feyenoord."

He said Mario Been, the coach, "has given me a chance and I have grabbed it with both hands".

Van Beukering may be thrown in for his debut in tomorrow's trip to Willem II.

"I am anxious to get back to playing games, and if the coach needs me I am ready," he said.
