ABU DHABI // There are three tiers of management for the Under 17 World Cup tournament: Fifa, the Local Organising Committee and the team at each stadium venue. Fifa emphasises that, to ensure a successful World Cup, the transition between all three must be smooth.
This week's trip was to evaluate the infrastructure (training sites, stadiums, hotels), but now the scheduling focus shifts entirely.
August 26 All venue teams meet in Abu Dhabi for a morning manager's workshop, in their first and only time together. They will share information, but also wor on coordination.
August 26 Afternoon draw to determine what national teams play at which venue. As the home team, UAE will play at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
August 27 National teams morning workshop. Informed about transportation, medical, security.
August 27 Venue teams guide national teams to their respective venues. National teams then take home findings.
September Testing of back-up generators at each venue.
October 2-8 Fifa Competitions team's final visit. Full-system integration testing, with all power and lighting switched on sometimes for 10-12 hours to simulate match-day conditions then turned off to see how the equipment responds to shutdown. Television cameras also tested.
