Brazil back on top of the world

Brazil's Confederations Cup victory has catapulted them back to the top of the Fifa world rankings for the first time since August 2007. The Selecao jumped from fifth knocking the European champions Spain down to second. The Netherlands drop to third ahead of Italy and Germany. Guus Hiddink's Russia rose to sixth followed by England, Argentina and France. The United States, who reached the final in South Africa by beating the Spanish, are up two spots to twelfth.

The UAE have kept their position at a disappointing 122nd and now sit jointly with Jordan and Armenia. The rankings are based on performances over the last four years. pchayney@thenational.ae
