Pro League: Al Jazira release Matias Delgado and Fernandinho

Abu Dhabi club also confirm Brazilian striker Ricardo Oliveira and South Korea defender Shin Hyung-min will be offered contract extensions.

ABU DHABI // In a major squad shake-up, Al Jazira are cutting ties with half of their international contingent, confirming that the Argentine midfielder Matias Delgado and the Brazilian forward Fernandinho will not be retained.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan, the club chairman, yesterday announced the pair's exit from Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium.

"We are in talks with six high-profile foreign players to replace them, but Arouna Kone is not one of them," he said, referring to the Ivorian striker from the English FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic, a reported Jazira target. "We will reveal the names of the new players once the negotiations are completed and a deal is struck."

Ricardo Oliveira, the Brazilian forward, and the Korean centre-back Shin Hyung-min, will see their contracts extended another season.

Jazira expect Al Ain to provide them with two or three UAE players as part of a deal in exchange for Jazira's release of Ivorian-born midfielder Ibrahim Diaky, who already signed with the Pro League champions.

"Diaky has been loyal to us for nine years and played an important role not only to win three major titles, but in the overall development of our team," Sheikh Mohammed said.

He said Jazira had not received any offers for Subait Khater from Sharjah, and had no intention of releasing him.

"We have received an offer for Yaser Matar from Al Nasr and a few proposals for Ahmed Jumaa, but they're in a very early stage," he said. "We will not hold them back if we think a move would benefit them."

The Jazira chairman said recruiting Emirati players will cease once youngsters emerge from their own academy.

"It may take another two years and we'll have players coming from our own production line," he said.
