Nash's century adds to England frustration

PORT OF SPAIN // Brendan Nash scored his maiden Test century as the West Indies continued to frustrate England on the fourth day of the fifth and final Test today. The West Indies reached lunch on 433 for four, trailing England by 113 runs but content the tourists made no progress towards diverting the drift towards a third consecutive draw in the series. The hosts lead 1-0 and need only a draw to secure their first series win over England since 1998.

The Australian-born left-hander Nash (109 not out) has shared an unbroken 230-run partnership with Shivnarine Chanderpaul, a record fifth-wicket stand at the Queen's Park Oval. Nash was stuck on 99 for seven balls until he went to three figures off Monty Panesar's bowling. Chanderpaul was in typically stubborn mood as he moved to 86 not out against an England attack struggling to find inspiration.

James Anderson was the pick of the bowlers, generating good pace and finding a dangerous line of attack. England have conceded 72 extras, the second highest total in any Test and four away from the record set by India against Pakistan in Bangalore in December 2007. The extras include 34 byes, three short of the record set by stand-in wicketkeeper Frank Woolley for England against Australia in 1934, at the age of 47.
