Muttiah Muralitharan to join up with Gloucestershire

Veteran Muttiah Muralitharan has agreed to play Twenty20 cricket for English county Gloucestershire for the next two years.

The 38-year-old Sri Lankan has not played English county cricket since leaving Lancashire in 2007.

Muralitharan took a record 800 wickets before retiring from test cricket in 2010.

He will first play for Sri Lanka at the World Cup and then represent Kochi in the Indian Premier League.

Muralitharan said: "The last time I played at Bristol, I took five wickets and I look forward to an exciting T20 competition with the Gladiators."

Muralitharan is also the leading wicket-taker in one-day internationals with 517 wickets.
