Australia frustrate England attack

James Anderson struck with his sixth ball to provide England with a belated breakthrough on the final morning of the third Ashes Test at Edgbaston. Swing bowler Anderson was brought on immediately after the drinks break and delivered the first blow to the Australian batting when Shane Watson was caught behind driving. England had failed to separate Australia's stubborn third-wicket pair in the opening hour but the success left the tourists 137 for three, a lead of 24 runs. Andrew Strauss' team began the fifth morning requiring eight wickets as quickly as possible to set up a chase for victory. But makeshift opener Watson registered his second half-century of the match before perishing for 53. Michael Hussey also played fluently to reach 64 as he started to frustrate a full house at Edgbaston, which turned up in anticipation of another thrilling finale. However, he could not resist a poke at a straight ball from Stuart Broad going around the wicket and the ball took the tiniest of nicks through to wicketkeeper Matt Prior to send the tourists into lunch on day five on 172 for four.
