Boson has Indian connection

NEW DELHI // The find sent a flutter of pride, and frustration, through India's scientific community.

Largely unknown is that the term "boson" owes its name to the pioneering work of the late Indian physicist, Satyendra Nath Bose.

Born in 1894, Mr Bose sent Albert Einstein a paper in 1924 describing a model that led to the discovery of the Bose-Einstein condensate phenomenon. The paper laid the basis for describing the two classes of sub-atomic particles, including bosons, named after Mr Bose and fermions. Mr Bose was never honoured by the Nobel academy, and died in 1974.
