Yemeni police fire on protesters, killing at least 14

SANAA // Yemeni doctors say at least 14 people have been killed by security forces who opened fire on an anti-government demonstration in the Yemeni capital. Dozens more have been wounded.

The shots came from rooftops and nearby houses as protesters filled the square near the university after Friday prayers for another day of protests demanding the country's ruler of 32 years step down.

The two doctors spoke on condition of anonymity fearing reprisals. They work at a makeshift hospital at the protesters' encampment near Sanaa University.

Demonstrators have rallied across Yemen for over a month demanding President Ali Abdullah Saleh step down. Government forces and pro-government thugs have used live fire, rubber bullets, tear gas, sticks, knives and rocks in an increasingly deadly crackdown.
