Bahrain opposition to join political talks

Bahrain’s opposition said yesterday that it would join the opening session of talks aimed at resolving a political crisis that began with Arab Spring-inspired protests nearly two years ago.

But the group of six political groups, led by the Shiite bloc Al Wefaq, said they would press for a set of nine principles to govern the discussions, which were covened by Bahrain’s king.

The opposition demands, set out in a letter to the justice minister and host of the talks, raised questions about the conduct of the national dialogue that began yesterday.
