Hamas PM postpones Cairo security talks

GAZA CITY // Gaza's Hamas prime minister, Ismail Haniya, yesterday postponed until next week a Cairo trip for top-level talks with his Egyptian counterpart.

Mr Haniya was scheduled to travel to Egypt yesterday for security discussions after an attack on August 5 in which 16 Egyptian border guards were killed in the Sinai.

"It was decided to postpone the visit of prime minister Ismail Haniya to Cairo until next week for technical reasons," the Hamas spokesman, Taher Al Nunu, said.

Egyptian officials blamed Gaza militants for the attack, saying some of the gunmen had reached Sinai through the cross-border smuggling tunnels.

Hamas has insisted there is no proof that any Palestinian was involved in the attack.
