Second Qantas plane suffers engine trouble

A Qantas plane has been forced to turn back to Perth minutes after take-off because of engine trouble, according to media reports.

According to The Australian, flight crew noticed vibrations in the left-hand engine on the Boeing 767 aircraft shortly after the QF768 flight, carrying 234 passengers, took off. The plane turned back, landing less than 25 minutes later.

This latest incident occurred as the carrier 's entire A380 fleet remains grounded, after an engine exploded on a Singapore to Sydney flight on November 4.  Rolls-Royce, which supplies Qantas's A380 engines, today announced it had identified the cause of the malfunction.

A Qantas spokesman said the Boeing 767 fleet used GE engines and not the Rolls-Royce engine used in its A380s.
