Okasha denies 'political' charge of inciting killing of president

CAIRO // A popular television presenter accused of inciting the killing of the country's new president on air denied the charges yesterday at the opening of his trial.

Supporters of Tawfiq Okasha filled the courthouse, chanting: "With our soul and blood we defend you."

The prosecutor accused Okasha of using his programme in July and August to incite the killing of Mohammed Morsi, and of insulting him by calling him an "illegitimate leader and a liar".

Mr Okasha said that the charges were politically driven.

The judges postponed the trial until October 3.
