As well as international organisations, foundations and charities from the UAE are also sending assistance to the victims of the famine.
The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Humanitarian Foundation, Al Maktoum Foundation, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Works and the Red Crescent have all sent and distributed almost 900 tonnes of food to needy refugees. The Al Maktoum Foundation has also helped dig more than 60 wells in Somalia, at an estimated cost of Dh2 million, through the help of other charities in the UAE.
The Khalifa Foundation only accepts donations from large organisations and companies, so no private donations can be made. Instead, individuals can make donations to the Red Crescent via SMS, online donations, deposits in bank accounts or by visiting their branches across the UAE.
For more information on the Red Crescent visit the website http://www.rcuae.ae/Donation/Pages/online.aspx
The aid programme is also supported by Dubai Islamic Bank Humanitarian Institution and Dar Al Bir Society. These organisations will help those in need in the city of Dolo and other areas.
Donations can be made to the Dubai Islamic Bank through the account 001 520 606 6666 01. Dar Al Bir accepts charity either at its branches or stands in the malls across the UAE.
Sharjah Charity International has sent an aid and assistance team to Mogadishu. Its programme was launched under the patronage of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
To donate through Sharjah Charity Association, send an SMS to 6212 to donate Dh20 and 6215 to donate Dh100.
