Honeymoon murder suspect granted bail in UK court

LONDON // A British court has granted bail to a newlywed accused of hiring a man to kill his bride during their honeymoon in South Africa.

Businessman Shrien Dewani is accused of arranging the murder of his wife, 28-year-old Anni, in Cape Town. The woman was found in an abandoned taxi with a bullet wound to her neck on November 13.

Authorities in South Africa want the 30-year-old British citizen extradited for a hearing there.

The High Court ruled on Friday that Dewani should be granted bail, disagreeing with the South African government that Dewani may not appear for his extradition hearing if he is released.

Dewani has said that their taxi was attacked during a late-night tour.

Taxi driver Zola Tongo has alleged that he was hired by the husband to kill his bride.
