Young Emirati killed in crash

DUBAI // A young Emirati died after the speeding car he was travelling in hit the central partition on the Dubai bypass road early this morning.

The Head of Traffic Prosecution Salah bu Farousha said that the driver of the car had lost control of the vehicle due to the speed he was travelling at, hit the partition and then crashed into a sign board. The accident happened at about 3am.

Both the driver and the 22-year-old passenger were rushed to Rashid Hospital. The passenger died shortly after, while the driver remains in critical condition.

Mr Bu Farousha said the driver would be under investigation upon his recovery and that a technical committee had been created to investigate the crash.

He said that seven deaths had been caused by traffic accidents in March. Three of those killed were Emirati. Causes of the accidents included lack of attention, sudden swerving, entering the road without checking and failing to leave safe distance between other vehicles.
