Yas Marina Circuit to debut a drag-racing strip for the youth

The new facility will give reckless young drivers a space to get their thrills, police say.

ABU DHABI // A new racing track reserved for young speedsters will open soon at Yas Marina Circuit, police say.

The new circuit forms part of police efforts to contain illegal drag racing - a "negative and dangerous phenomenon on UAE roads, according to Brig Gen Hussein Al Harethi, head of the traffic police in Abu Dhabi.

The new track is designed to give the youth a place to practice their hobby in a safe, regulated environment.

Abu Dhabi Police and the Abu Dhabi Motor Sports Management signed an agreement to create the circuit on Monday, The National's Arabic-language sister paper, Al Ittihad, reported on Tuesday.
