DUBAI // The maker of the world's most expensive motorhome, available in a gold finish, has lined up a number of prospective buyers in the UAE.
The eleMMent Palazzo is 12 metres long, weighs 20 tonnes and costs Dh10.3 million with all the extras. It is built in Germany by an Austrian firm, Marchi Mobile.
The mighty palace on wheels, with its unique round windscreen, has been seen on the roads of Dubai before: a white version was one of the highlights of the Big Boys Toys show in February last year. But it could soon become a regular sight on Sheikh Zayed Road, the Palm Jumeirah and in the desert.
"We are in advanced discussions with some potential clients in the UAE," said Juliane Ronisch, the company's chief brand manager.
When asked whether the gold model was on anyone's shopping list here, he replied: "Company policy requires that I stay discreet about our customers and their configurations, unless a customer gives permission. Internet rumours that we sold a gold-plated vehicle to Dubai are not correct."
The eleMMent is sold directly by Marchi Mobile worldwide – the company does not use local agents or representatives in Dubai or anywhere else.
The Palazzo has a lavishly furnished master bedroom with a 40-inch TV, a large living room with a high-end multimedia system, and a rainfall shower in the bathroom. There is a pop-up lounge on the top of the vehicle – the furniture, sunroof, handrail and stairs all appear at the press of a button.
The eleMMent even has a self-wash system – ideal at the end of a long trip through the desert kicking up sand.
As well as the Palazzo motorhome, there is a version known as the Viva, which is set up as a VIP shuttle with an interior similar to that of a private jet.
It has six business class-style seats that can be adjusted to a sleeping position and have a built-in massage function. There is a private room with couch, TV and intercom for the owner, and an optional mobile office package is available.
"This vehicle is used to travel distances too short for flying but too long to be wasting time in a car or limousine," said Mr Ronisch. "It can be ordered now and construction will take about nine months."
Mario Marchi, the company's chief executive, said: "Its primary target group are affluent individuals who prefer its incredible comfort features for short trips or like to utilise it as a high-tech mobile conference room."
Mr Marchi said worldwide interest in the vehicles was so strong that the company was increasing the size of its factory substantially.
