World's most expensive cupcake on display in Dubai this weekend

The world's most expensive edible cupcake will go on display in Dubai this weekend - but foodies will have to wait until around Eid to try one.

Named The Golden Phoenix, the cake costs Dhs3,700 thanks to a list of ingredients such as Italian chocolate and 23-carat edible gold sheets.

The costly confectionery will have its own special display cabinet away from the other cakes on sale at Bloomsbury's in the Dubai Mall.

Topped with a chocolate-fudge icing, slivers of chocolate, and organic strawberries dipped in chocolate, all covered with gold dusting, the cupcake will go on display on Saturday but the first cakes are not expected to be available to order until around Eid.

"There has been a lot of interest," said a spokeswoman for Bloomsbury's.

"It is the talk of the town."

The cupcakes will be presented on a 24-carat gold stand, along with a dollop of chocolate-fudge icing and organic whipped cream.

Customers must allow 48 hours for orders to be completed.
