Woman gives birth in hospital car park

SHARJAH // A woman gave birth to baby girl in the car park of Al Qassimi Hospital on Saturday.

The woman, an Emirati, was being driven to a hospital in another emirate after going into labour, but her and her husband realised she would not make it in time so instead they made their way to the nearest hospital, which was Al Qassimi.

She gave birth to her daughter as her husband parked the car, hospital sources said, adding that a gynaecologist was sent to help her.

The delivery was said to have been made with no complications.

"Both the mother and her daughter were later carried to the hospital maternity ward, and the umbilical cord was cut inside the hospital," the source said.

The source added that "they were both in good health and will stay in the hospital for another day before being discharged on Monday".
