Unlicensed driver kills pedestrian

RAS AL KHAIMAH // A woman driving without a licence killed one pedestrian and injured three others on New Year's Eve, the police reported.

The woman, a 22-year-old bidoon, borrowed a rented car from an Arab friend. She lost control of the car and hit four Asian men on Al Dhait road.

"She was distracted with talk and she had no driving licence," said Lt Thaer Al Najjar of the RAK Police.

One man died at Saqr Hospital, said Dr Yousef Altair, head of the accident and emergency department. Two men had head and chest injuries and have been released. The fourth has a fractured pelvis.

Bidoon, who do not hold passports of any country, require special permission for driving licences and vehicle registration, RAK Police said.
