Undercover sting nets drug-dealing suspects

DUBAI // Three men have been arrested on charges of attempting to sell about 1.2kg of heroin to undercover officers. Brig Abdul Jalil Mahdi, director of the Dubai Police anti-narcotics unit, said that following a tip-off from an informant, a team of undercover officers had tracked the suspects - all Asian - and posed as buyers. The first arrest had taken place at a meeting with a member of the group in the Al Baraha area in Deira on June 7, when he allegedly attempted to sell the narcotics to one of the team. A lookout had also been arrested within minutes.

Officers had then arrested the gang's "mastermind" in a hotel in the Deira district. The first and third defendants are charged with trafficking drugs into the UAE with the intention of selling them, while the second is charged with possession of drugs. Brig Mahdi promised: "We will continue in the fight against drug traffickers not only at the local level but also at the regional level and internationally."
