UAE taxi driver who returned lost Dh120,000 praised for his honesty

A taxi driver who turned in a lost briefcase containing Saudi Riyals worth more than Dh120,000 is being lauded for his honesty.

Omar Hayah Ajmal Khan, from Pakistan, was at a petrol station cleaning his back seat when he noticed the briefcase and an item of gold jewellery had been left in his car.

He was returning to Dubai after dropping a passenger off in Sharjah and handed the briefcase into Al Qusais Police Station as soon as he got back.

Lieutenant colonel Jomaa bin Suheil Al Muhairi, the acting director of Al Qusais Police station, said the driver's swift response meant the briefcase could be reunited with its owner.

Lt Col Al Muhairi rewarded the driver for his integrity with a certificate of appreciation and an unspecified "symbolic gift".

Mr Khan expressed his pride in receiving the reward and called on the public to cooperate with the police.
