UAE drivers questioned after boy is killed in hit-and-run

DUBAI // Police were questioning drivers yesterday after a 12-year-old boy died in a hit-and-run on the Khor Fakkan-Fujairah road.

The boy, AQ, and his 15-year-old friend, OH, were on a bicycle when they hit a parked bus at about 8pm on Thursday.

Police said they then continued into the main road and a passing car hit their bike.

The boy died at the scene. His friend suffered serious injuries and is in a stable condition in hospital.

Police were able to identify the make of car involved in the hit-and-run from debris left at the scene of the accident.

"We have detained several people and referred their cars for forensic tests to determine which car could have caused the accident," said Col Ali Rashid, head of the traffic patrols department at Fujairah Police.
