UAE cracks down on illegals after amnesty expires


SHARJAH / AJMAN // Police in Sharjah have arrested 22 illegal residents as part of an ongoing campaign to crack down on illegals who failed to leave the country under the recent amnesty.

The arrests were made on Sunday in a series of raids throughout the emirate, said Col Jihad bin Sahoo, the director general of Sharjah CID.

Most of those arrested were hawkers and beggars from mostly Asian and African countries, he said.

Col Sahoo urged the public to report all illegal residents.

In Ajman, Brigadier Mohammed Al Alwan, the director of the Naturalistaion and Foreign affairs department, said officers were also cracking down on illegal residents in the emirate and a series of arrests have been made.
