DUBAI// The UAE is not part of a global recall of Toyota cars that is affecting 242,000 vehicles due to a braking problem.
The models involved are the Prius, which is not sold in the UAE, and Lexus hybrid produced between March and October 2009.
"The Prius is not sold in the UAE and we have no affected Lexus models in the Emirates either," said a spokesman for UAE dealership Al-Futtaim Motors.
The issue means drivers of the two models must exert more pressure on the brake pad to stop the car.
A Toyota spokesman told the AFP news agency that a materials weakness was causing cracks that allowed nitrogen gas to leak into the brake fluid.
There had been no reports of accidents but the carmaker said it had received more than 90 complaints from customers around the world.
The recall involves 117,000 cars in Japan, 91,000 in North America, 30,000 in Europe and 3,000 in Asia-Pacific.
