ABU DHABI // Roadworks began yesterday on Khaleej Al Arabi Street in Al Maqta.
Al Maqta area and the Abu Dhabi Gate City Project aims to ease vehicle flow and enhance safety in a part of the city that is experiencing an increasing amount of traffic.
As part of the project, two exits will be added to Khaleej Al Arabi Street, and two new roundabouts will be created.
Al Maqta, formerly known as Bain Al Jisrain, or Between the Bridges, is becoming increasingly busy as a result of the development of a number of residential, historical and commercial establishments. These include Al Maqta Castle, the Ritz Carlton, the Shangri La and The Souq at Qarayat Al Beri.
The project will be split into two phases, with the first part focusing on Al Maqta.
"The Department of Transport has undertaken several studies to guarantee that the best possible approaches are adopted to preserve the area's aesthetic and cultural landmarks while traffic is maintained and unaffected during the whole duration of work," said Faisal Ahmed Al Suwaidi, the general director of main roads at the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi.
