A new automated fare system means taxis in Dubai will begin charging Salik toll fees again this year.
Commuters will be able to use their Nol cards to pay for taxi fares, while Metro, bus and water-bus users will be able to pay for their transport with a swipe of their smart phones.
Later in the year, the expansion of Dubai Creek through Jumeirah is bound to affect almost everyone in the city. The expansion is required to help circulate the water around Business Bay, which up until now has required the use of diesel-powered pumps to prevent the bay from becoming stagnant.
Work on the expansion is expected to begin in March, and bridges will be built on Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Wasl Road, and Jumeirah Road.
The creek may also eat away a large chunk of Safa Park, destroying much of the popular 4-kilometre jogging track, and a number of homes may have to be demolished to make way for the tail end of the creek.
