Date set for capital's paid parking

Residents will pay to park in parts of Abu Dhabi from Oct 1, the official in charge of the city's parking management programme said today. Najib al Zarooni's comments came a day after the department had issued a press release saying new regulations, fees and fines were to be introduced from July. Mr al Zarooni said he believed a mistake had been made regarding the date, adding it would be "impossible" to start enforcing paid parking in July. "We cannot implement something without having other solutions for people," he said. He declined to offer further details about the programme, saying the department's initiatives and timelines would be outlined at a press conference expected to be held next month. mchung@thenational.ae
