Al Saada Bridge project completed in Abu Dhabi
ABU DHABI // The roadworks around Al Saada Bridge to Al Reem Island are completed, officials said yesterday.
The 700m bridge was partly opened in June. The junction that connects the bridge and Hazza bin Zayed Street with Al Salam Street is now open to vehicles and is controlled by traffic lights, and includes pedestrian walkways.
The road has been widened to four lanes in each direction from the bridge to 29th Street as part of the Al Salam Street Development Project.
The bridge now has a capacity for 14,000 vehicles an hour.
The entire Dh5 billion development, which includes four tunnels, was originally planned to be finished before the end of this year.
Officials of Abu Dhabi Municipality's infrastructure and assets sector have said they now expect it to be completed by next summer. The last phase of the project, which runs from Hazza bin Zayed Street to Mina Road and includes a 3.1km tunnel under the Tourist Club area, is still under construction.
The project will enable vehicles to travel from the Meena area to the new Sheikh Zayed Bridge without facing a traffic light.
