Abu Dhabi motorist who sued Mawaqif over Dh23,000 in fines loses case

ABU DHABI // A motorist who sued Mawaqif after accumulating parking fines worth more than Dh23,000 while he was out of the country lost his case at the Civil Court today.

The man, an Arab, said he left his vehicle in a free parking area before travelling abroad but claimed that while he was away Mawaqif converted the patch into a paid-parking area and then fined him daily until he returned to find he owed Dh23,500.

But a lawyer for Mawaqif denied this and said the man must have known the area was paid-parking as he had been fined for parking there previous to his trip.

The court dismissed the man's case saying he could not prove his claims.
