20,000 motorists jumped red lights in 2012, Dubai Police says

Dubai Police has tweeted that they recorded over 20,000 violations of motorists jumping red lights last year.

Saif Al Zafeen, director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police Dubai Traffic, said this was one of the most serious traffic offences and that this often resulted in deaths or grave injuries.

Meanwhile, an official at the Dubai Police operations room said a minor accident involving two cars held up traffic on Al Khail Road for a few minutes this morning.

"It was a small accident. Traffic is now clear," he said. There were other small accidents around the emirate, he said, adding traffic was clear in most places.
