Thousands of arrests in Dubai for flouting tourism rules

A total of 8,180 people were arrested last year in Dubai for breaking tourism regulations, the police's Tourist Department has said.

The arrests were for offences ranging from loitering and causing a nuisance to beachgoers to unlicensed tour guides offering wrong information about Dubai and the UAE, according to Lt Col Mohammed Rashid Al Muhairi.

He added that the department conducted 1,739 inspection rounds last year that included tourist companies, hotels, malls, desert camps, beaches, heritage sites, events venues and the museum.
