ABU DHABI // Guns N’ Roses, Nelly Furtado and the Jonas Brothers are the latest acts to add their names to the roll call of top class international performers set to visit the capital as part of its winter entertainment season on Yas Island.
The three acts will play as part of a series of live shows, running over five consecutive weekends after the conclusion of the second annual Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 14.
The line up will also feature a weekend dedicated to basketball where National Baskestball Association (NBA) legends will be in the capital to sign autographs and lead coaching sessions.
The entertainment series, called Yas Island Show Weekends, were announced last night at a VIP party in the Yas Hotel hosted by Flash Entertainment.
Ossama Khoreibi, the chairman of Flash, said the five-week-long line-up would position Abu Dhabi as one of the world’s premier entertainment destinations.
The shows were designed, he said, to “offer people across the UAE, GCC and the world another reason to keep coming back to this wonderful leisure destination each and every weekend.”
The live shows begin on November 18 with the Jonas Brothers, the American boy band made up of three brothers who were made famous by a television show aired on the Disney Channel in the US.
The following weekend, on November 26, Nelly Furtado, the Canadian singer-songwriter who has sold 20 million albums worldwide, will play in what has been labelled the hip-hop weekend as it will also feature live graffiti demonstrations and a staged “battle” between graffiti artists.
Over National Day weekend, the NBA Jam Fest will be hosted on the island and on December 9 the already highly anticipated dance festival Creamfields will take place in the Yas Arena.
The concluding weekend will see rock legends Guns N’ Roses take to the stage, where it is expected they will play hits such as Sweet Child O’ Mine and Paradise City. Despite the lead guitarist, Slash, leaving the band in 1998, the group have remained popular and they released their sixth studio album, Chinese Democracy, in 2008.
Guns N’ Roses have sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
