Three in four people run over on Dubai roads are labourers

A total of 74 per cent of people who are run over by cars in Dubai are Asian labourers, statistics reveal.

Maitha bin Oudey, the executive director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), said that the figure highlights the need for intensified traffic awareness campaigns targeting this group of residents.

She noted that RTA recently concluded a road safety awareness drive for motorists and road users, which had a focus on Asians.

Copies of a guidance booklet called Partners in the Road were handed out to motorists and pedestrians in both English and Arabic.

The authority conducted a comprehensive survey of many roads and areas in Dubai emirate to determine the areas with the highest incidence for run-over incidents.

Precautionary measures were then put in place in the worst-affected areas.
