Teenager dies after being knocked down by bus

An Egyptian youth died after being knocked over by a speeding vehicle as he was trying to cross a road in Nazwa area of Abu Dhabi.

Ahmed Nawzan, 17, was hit on Tuesday morning by a small bus.

Police said the area was not a safe crossing point but that the crash could have been avoided if the Pakistani driver had been driving under the speed limit.

Paramedics tried to save the boy but he died en route to hospital. The driver was arrested and passed on to the Public Prosecution. The body of the youth has been returned to his family for burial.
